Buy once, own the software. Every tier is a perpetual licence, yours to keep and fully offline-capable, so you are never locked out of your own van. Over-the-air updates are included for the first year; after that, an optional subscription keeps updates and new features coming. Nomad is built on open Home Assistant, so there is no vendor lock-in, and Vision adds capabilities no rival offers: AI CCTV with facial recognition, OBD2 vehicle diagnostics and natural-language speech control.
What you’ll spend all-in
Nomad is software, not a sealed box. You run it on hardware you choose, and you can reuse kit you already have (like your Victron gear), so you avoid the hardware markup and keep full control. A typical first build on the BYO or Appliance setup looks like this:
| Nomad Lite, example build | Approx. |
|---|---|
| Nomad Lite licence | £399 |
| Mini server (Raspberry Pi 5, storage, case) | £160 |
| Touchscreen or tablet | £80 |
| Relay module | £40 |
| Typical all-in base system (not including sensors) | ≈ £680 |
Plus and Vision step up to more capable hardware (an Intel NUC, an AI-capable NUC, cameras, an OBD2 link), so a typical all-in lands around £1,100 to £1,400 for Plus and £1,500 to £2,000 for Vision. Already running Home Assistant on your own server? Lite can be a licence-only upgrade. Hardware figures are indicative and depend on the parts you choose.
How Nomad compares
Most camper control systems are sealed hardware bundles. Here is roughly where an all-in Nomad build sits against the market:
| Type of system | Typical price | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Budget control panel | £300 to £400 | Fixed switching and basic monitoring |
| Smart display panel | £475 to £630 | Touchscreen and voice, limited integration |
| Marine-grade digital switching | £2,000 to £3,000+ | Powerful, but closed and installer-led |
| Nomad, all-in | £680 to £2,000 | Extensive monitoring, control and switching of sensors, vehicle, music, CCTV, speech and AI |
Nomad sits mid-market on price while doing more than systems costing far more, and unlike the closed options it is built on open hardware with no vendor lock-in.
